Appeal for a new foundation in Sweden contributing to peace, respect for human rights and sustainable development

Another Development Foundation was constituted July 1st 2016 by the founders Ingvar Rönnbäck, Ira Sundberg och Peter Söderström.

The Foundation is located in The City of Umeå, a creative and dynamic city in the northern part of Sweden (for example awarded as The European Capital of Culture 2014).

Through this appeal the founders want to pay attention to people and organization about their wish to get support for an independent and non-profit foundation, whose purpose is to create conditions for peace, freedom from violence, respect for human rights, gender equality and sustainable development (including climate justice), with a focus on including young people and coming generations.

Foundation has been established to give people and organizations increased opportunities for active dialogue on how to practically engage in how a world with respect for people and environment can be created and how to get there.  The Foundation specially intends to give actors in the northern part of Sweden opportunities for participation in different activities, but also create opportunities to carry out activities and projects with partners on a national and an international level. The foundation will enhance development of knowledge, networks, projects and partnerships.

The Foundation will work for the purpose by acting as an open and inspiring environment for dialogue and meetings who identifies challenges, concrete options for action and enhances results-oriented partnerships for sustainable development, respect for human rights, gender equality, freedom from violence and peace. The Foundation will promote the purpose through specific development projects, various forms of communication efforts as well as through compatible activities

The basic starting point of The Foundation is to enhance Another Development  – a development for people, places and planet earth – and with gratitude to the work by scholars in the framework of Dag Hammarskjöld Project for Development and International Cooperation during 1970´s in relation to the challenges of that time. If Another development would be practiced, it would help to strengthen the empowerment and self-reliance among the marginalized, oppressed and vulnerable groups, societies and communities, as well as supporting an equitable, fair and sustainable global development (for elaboration on the history of Another development, se ”Another development” at this homepage).

The Foundation´s activities are characterized by a rights perspective, which is based United Nations universal declaration of human rights from 1948, conventions on human rights, and with awareness of the dialogue and debate on human rights that exists, which reflects changes and development in the discourse about human rights. The struggles for the rights of women, girls, children, minorities, indigenous people, refugees, migrants, people with disabilities and people with different sexual orientation and identity as well rights for the nature have contributed to the understanding of the meaning of human rights as well as to the work for human rights.
