What is “Let’s Change The Rules”?
“Let’s Change The Rules” is a 60-minute concert program featuring specially composed music about humanity’s relationship with nature. Its purpose is to raise awareness of the need for an international law against large-scale environmental destruction — an ecocide law.
So far, this concert has been performed in Helsinki, Aalborg, Zaragoza, Istanbul, Sandefjord, Luxembourg, and Stockholm.
On May 10th, the concert was performed at Umeå People´s House by a number of different choirs.
The concert was a performance co-organized and supported by a number of different organizations: End Ecocide Sweden, Stop Ecocide International, International Federation for Choral Music, European Choral Assocation, Swedish Association for Choirs, Swedish Church, the Study Association Bilda, the Study Association Sensus and Another Development Foundation.
ADF is grateful for the opportunity to work with partners exploring how cultural workers, science and civil society can work together for advocating for Ecocide Law a law that aims to criminalize unlawful or wanton acts committed with knowledge of substantial, severe, and long-term damage to the environment. Proposed as a fifth international crime alongside genocide, it would amend the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court to hold individuals accountable for mass environmental destruction.
ADF will also be involved in the discussion how to show the performance in Kenya, and perhaps also other countries.
