Due to the racist and discriminatory policies and decisions pushed and taken by the current Swedish Government with support from the far-right party – The Swedish Democrats – mobilization for a humane and rights-based migration policy in Sweden are underway.
On March 14th 2026 approximately five hundred people gathered in the City Center of Umeå for a collective manifestation supported by twenty two organizations from different sectors of society who is working for inclusion and respectful integration in the City of Umeå (see the list of organizations in the last part of this post).
Six speakers provided strong and valuable statements arguing for change in the Swedish society and also critique of current policies and actions pushed and taken by the Swedish Government. The speakers were:
Sofia Mirjamsdotter, opinion editor, Västerbottens Kuriren
Torstein Bratvold, former CEO of UBEC
Monica Burman, member of the board of Save the Children
Fredrik Juul, Priest in the Swedish Curch
Aini Umar, student and vice chair of the youth association Libin
Ethel Henriksson, chair of section for Kommunal
The manifestation also provided space for music and information about how to connect to, and become a part of, the movement for a humane and rights-based migration policy in Sweden.
Similar manifestations were carried out this weekend in approximately thirty municipalities in Sweden.
The manifestation was facilitated by Åsa Norin, Founder of Friend in Umeå and Ingvar Rönnbäck, Founder and Chair of the Board of Another Development Foundation.
