We are happy to announce that during this semester, Mikaela Saedén will be doing an internship with us, in collaboration with the study association Bilda. Mikaela is doing this as part of her master’s program in crisis management and peacebuilding at Umeå University. Prior to this, she earned her bachelor’s degree in politics and public administration, with a concentration in peace and conflict studies. For her bachelor’s thesis, she compared the Maduro regime in Venezuela with the Sinaloa cartel in Mexico, finding several similarities in their conduct of illicit activities, which generated a deeper understanding of state and non-state actors who engage in criminal behavior.

Apart from her general interest in global politics and conflict management, she further gained an interest in post-colonial issues and women’s experiences of war and peace when she did an exchange semester in Toronto, Canada, in 2024. Here, she studied courses about third-world politics, the politics of international development, a feminist course on war and peace, and controversial policy topics.

This internship will contribute to a deeper understanding of civil society organisations and how they function and operate. Furthermore, she will assist with implementing projects related to non-violence and resistance, as well as gender-based violence, and participate in other civil society, democracy, and contingency-related projects. Hence, she will gain knowledge about how one develops business and collaborate with NGOs and parts of the public sector, in addition to planning and implementing projects regarding these topics.

Once again, we are very happy work with Mikaela! Her contributions to our work is, and will be, of great importance!
