Another Development Foundation is now an affiliated partner to World BEYOND War – A Global Movement to End All Wars. We will act as member of this movement for this to happen, i.e. putting an end to war as an institution.
We have copied information about WBW in this post from the WBW Website:
”World BEYOND War is a nonprofit organization with chapters around the world using educational, activist, and media work to advance the cause of ending all war and establishing lasting peace. WBW has a board, advisory board, staff, and chapter organizers all over the globe and works with allied organizations, many of which are WBW affiliates.
WBW was founded on January 1st, 2014, when co-founders David Hartsough and David Swanson, together with a group of like-minded peace advocates set out to create a global movement to abolish the institution of war itself, not just the “war of the day.” If war is ever to be abolished, they decided, then it must be taken off the table as a viable option. Just as there is no such thing as “good” or necessary slavery, there is no such thing as a “good” or necessary war. Both institutions are abhorrent and never acceptable, no matter the circumstances.
So, if we can’t use war to resolve international conflicts, what can we do? Finding a way to transition to a global security system that is supported by international law, diplomacy, collaboration, and human rights, and defending those things with nonviolent action rather than the threat of violence, is the heart of WBW.
Our work includes education and media production that dispels myths, such as “War is natural” or “We have always had war,” and shows people not only that war should be abolished, but also that it actually can be. We engage in all variety of nonviolent actions and campaigns that move the world in the direction of ending all war.”
We have signed the WBW:s Declaration of Peace in January 2025:
“We understand that wars and militarism make us less safe rather than protect us, that they kill, injure and traumatize adults, children and infants, severely damage the natural environment, erode civil liberties, and drain our economies, siphoning resources from life-affirming activities. We commit to engage in and support nonviolent efforts to end all war and preparations for war and to create a sustainable and just peace.”
What does it mean?
- Wars and militarism: By wars, we mean the organized, armed, mass use of deadly violence; and by militarism we mean preparations for war, including the building of weapons and militaries and the creation of cultures supportive of war. We reject the myths that usually support war and militarism.
- Less safe: We are endangered by wars, weapons testing, other impacts of militarism, and the risking of nuclear apocalypse.
- Kill, injure, and traumatize: War is a leading cause of death and suffering.
- Damage the environment: War and militarism are major destroyers of climate, land, and water.
- Erode civil liberties: War is the central justification for government secrecy and the erosion of rights.
- Drain economies: War impoverishes us.
- Siphoning resources: War wastes 2 trillion USD a year that could do a world of good. This is the primary way in which war kills.
- Nonviolent efforts: These include everything from educational events to art to lobbying to divestment to protesting to standing in front of trucks full of weapons.
- Sustainable and just peace: Nonviolent activism not only succeeds more than war at the things war is supposedly for: ending occupations and invasions and tyranny. It also is more likely to result in a long-lasting peace, a peace that is stable because not accompanied by injustice, bitterness, and thirst for revenge, a peace based on respect for the rights of all.
